Weaving Classes at Color Crossing, 201 N. Vine St, Roberts, WI. www.colorcrossing.com These are all beginner level classes. No previous weaving experience is necessary. Contact Judy Larson at chjulars@centurytel.net if you want to take a class, have questions on any class, or if you need to arrange a time for a special project. Weave a Towel : Learn to warp and weave towels on a four harness loom. Purchase 8/2 cotton in your favorite colors, then wind and warp the loom. The next two days are for weaving. One threading allows many pattern options, so you can weave more than one! Class meets 9-4 for three days. Cost is $270.
Rag Rug Class: Bring in 3 3-yard pieces of prewashed cotton fabric( at least 9 yards total). You’ll learn to cut strips first, then weave your own rug, using tabby, log cabin, two-shuttle, and three-shuttle techniques. The loom will be pre-warped and ready for you to weave! Cost: $270 Class meets from 9-5 for two days.
Warping a Loom: Learn to read a draft, wind a warp, and warp a loom. Then you can weave off your own table runner independently on the following day. Bring three yards of cotton fabrics, pre-washed. Class meets from 9-5 for two days. Cost is $210. Please let me know if you want to bring in your own loom, or use a Color Crossing loom.
Three Shuttle Rug Class: Learn the techniques for making a three-shuttle rug. Bring in three 3 yards pieces of coordinating cottons, prewashed. You’ll learn to cut bias strips, and plan color your color blocks, then weave your own rug on a pre-warped loom. Class meets from 9-5 for 2 days. Cost is $270.
Taquete, Rolakan, or Rep Weave Rugs: Expand your skills as you learn a new technique. Learn to cut bias strips and plan patterns. Weave on a pre-warped loom to create a small rug using one of the techniques. Taquete requires at least two 5 yard pieces of quilting cottons, prewashed. Rolakan needs at least three 3 yard pieces, prewashed. Rep weave requires at least 5 yards of one color. Each class is 9-5 for two days. Cost is $270.
Intro to Weaving for Kids and Adults (Ages 7- and up): Make a table runner on a two harness loom, and a place mat on a 4-harness floor loom. All materials are provided. Class meets for 4 hours. Limit of 4 per class. Cost $90.
Inkle Loom Introduction- (Ages 7 and up) Learn to plan, warp, and weave on an inkle loom. Create a great belt, strap for a purse, guitar, or camera, or make a set of bookmarks, or find another use for the woven bands. Purchase your 3/2 or 5/2 cotton at Color Crossing. Class meets for 3 hours on two days, (with a week in between to weave at home). Inkle looms are available to take home for a $100 deposit, refunded to you when the loom is returned. Cost is $90.
Cricket Scarf Class for Kids and Adults (Ages 7 and up): Try out the new Cricket rigid heddle loom. Purchase your chunky yarn color, then learn to direct warp the Cricket loom and make a 6 foot scarf. Finish your ends with knots, and take home your creation! Class meets for 3 hours on two days, with a week to weave at home in between. Cost: $90 There is a $180 deposit to take a Cricket loom home, refunded when it is returned.
Ruffled Scarf Class: Using a Cricket rigid heddle loom, you will learn to plan, warp, and weave a ruffled scarf. First you’ll purchase your lace weight yarn and your Zephyr yarn in your choice of colors. Then you’ll learn to direct warp your loom and start weaving. After you’ve woven 120 inches of scarf, you’ll take it off the loom, knot your ends, and wash it. The magic of differential shrinkage will create the ruffles in your new scarf. Class meets for three hours on two days, with a week in between to weave at home. Cost is $90. If you have your own rigid heddle loom, you can bring it to class. You need a loom at least 8 inches wide with an 8, 10, or 12 dent reed. There is a sample scarf in the shop for you to see. There is a $180 deposit to bring a Cricket loom home, refunded when you return the loom.
