The Tie Rebel
8000 ties were donated to On Our Own by a father of one of the residents. Originally from Wisconsin and not a tie –wearing man, he ended up working in Washington DC and, even though he seldom interacted with the public, was required to wear a tie to work. In protest he wore out-of-date garage sale and thrift store ties, a different one each day. Eventually he started buying ties by the bail from Rag Stock, then he and his son started selling them at flea markets or in their front yard. In that town, at the time, with ties part of the work uniform for males, they made enough money selling ties to pay for most of his son’s college education.
Color Crossing inherited his tie collection from On Our Own. The result of this great gift - The Color Crossing Tie Challenge, a fund raiser to encourage creativity, support an organization doing good work and to continue to put his ties to good use.

Monthly Weavers Gathering
Color Crossing Weaver’s will be meeting from 10-Noon on the third Saturday of each month. It is a time to bring in what you have woven, ask questions about what you are weaving, or get inspired to do more weaving! Our second meeting will be on February 18 in the Studio space classroom. Contact Judy Larson at chjulars@centurytel.net or 715-796-2481 if you have questions about the meeting. It will be interesting, informational, and inspiring to see what the Color Crossing Weavers are doing on their looms. Any level of expertise or any kind of weaving is welcome!
We continue to have Spin In’s on the second Saturday (10am-12pm) and third Monday’s (7-9pm) of the month. Please give us a call if you have any questions. Or if you would like to be added to our email list of spinners, please send me an email at colorcrossing@sbcglobal.net. I will forward you request to our volunteer organizer and Yahoo Group coordinator, then you will information on what the local spinners are doing. The Monday night (7:00-9:00pm) group is called the Backdoor Spinners. They meet when the shop is not officially open, so if the front door is not open, go to the backdoor. Usually the backdoor is more convenient, as they meet in the backroom.
Hope to see you soon! If you cannot make it in, we would be happy to mail your yarn to you.
